Test Utilization: How Much Is Too Much?
The Pathologist is proud to be hosting The Big Debate at ASCP’s 2019 Annual Meeting to help tackle issues pathologists and laboratory medicine professionals face every day in their work. This live debate will be recorded and available to watch on demand after the event. Register now and we will send you a link to the recording as soon as it is available.
The Big Debate Overview:
The more we learn about laboratory medicine, the more testing options we have to offer patients – from basic diagnostic tests to precision genome analyses. But with this proliferation of tests comes a need for caution; not every test is necessary in every situation. In fact, they can sometimes be detrimental. The goal is to conduct the minimum necessary testing for maximum results – and this debate will tackle the complex questions that arise.
How can we diagnose and treat patients who need it without spotting, testing, or treating people who don’t? How can we most efficiently use the tests we have to find out everything we need to know about a particular patient or disease without expending resources on things we don’t need? And what happens when we don’t get it right?
