Saranya Singaravel

The Power List 2016

Saranya Singaravel

One of the first people in India to be trained in cardiovascular pathology, Saranya brings a tremendous amount of enthusiasm to this less well-studied area. She has received several awards for her work, and her lectures are very popular with residents and trainees in pathology, cardiology and surgery.
“When it comes to the heart,” she says, “very little is known about what is ‘normal’ in the Indian population – and where pathology is concerned, we face the dual challenges of infective tropical diseases and lifestyle-related diseases. I hope my work can improve the understanding of cardiovascular disease and contribute to the formulation of standards and guidelines to help improve the health of people in my country and in the developing world.”

Currently at Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital in Mumbai, India, Saranya envisions an academic career for herself – and her nominators agree that she is “sure to shine.”
