Must Sees
Day 1
16:15 - 17:50 (Ballroom) – Maude Abbott Lecture – Integration of Molecular Testing in Pathology Practice: Embracing the Choices
Renowned cytogeneticist Julia A. Bridge will deliver the plenary lecture on the molecular testing landscape and the information needed to help with diagnostic assay selection. Case studies will be included to exemplify molecular testing in clinical practice.
Reserve your space now for this ticket only event.
Day 2
8:00 - 16:00 (Room 345) – Resident Workshop: Genomic Medicine for Pathologists
Genomic pathology will soon become routine in patient care. This comprehensive course aims to equip you with the skills to determine the significance of genetic variants, optimize genetic assays and interpret the results. The free course includes case-based practical group work to cement the learning.
14:00 - 15:30 (Room 318) – Paleopathology Club
What have we learned about historic diseases from the study of human remains? And how do the findings compare with modern populations? This session will explore these questions and more via paleopathology case studies of the nervous system and placental specimens.
Day 3
8:00 - 12:00 (Various rooms) – Platforms
Catch up with the latest developments in your specialty. From bone and soft tissue to breast pathology; from hematopathology to head and neck – pick your session and settle down for a whistlestop tour of all that’s hot in that topic.
16:30 - 17:20 (Ballroom) – Luminaries in Pathology – Carol F. Farver
In this interactive session, Carol F. Farver will share her experience and wisdom in diagnosing granulomatous diseases of the lung by combining clinical, radiological, and microbiological findings.
17:30 - 18:20 (Ballroom) – Luminaries in Pathology – Victor E. Reuter
The power of morphology and the differential diagnosis are the heroes in this lesson on common and not-so-common challenges in genitourinary pathology.
Day 4
8:00 - 10:30 (Room 301) – Histology Bootcamp
An all-levels-welcome guide to the common considerations and potential pitfalls of biopsy assessments. John A. Hart opens the session with a focus on liver histology, and Virginia A. LiVolsi follows up with thyroid.
13:30 - 16:00 (Ballroom) – A Day In The Sign Out
These sessions will feature digital slide images to facilitate discussion of case studies typical of a routine surgical pathology service. Suitable for all levels, the focus will be on diagnostic problem-solving, effective communication, and reporting skills.
In Session 1, Emma E. Furth looks at gastrointestinal and liver cases. Bone and soft tissue pathology will be covered in session 2 with G. Pétur Nielsen.
16:30 - 17:50 (Ballroom) – Nathan Kaufman Timely Topics Lecture – Creating the Fourth Chapter of Human Genomics
Eric Green, Director of the National Human Genome Research Institute in the US will present the institute’s current and future programs and initiatives in biomedical research.
Day 5
10:00 - 15:20 (Room 307) – Long Course – Sign-out of Medical Liver Disease and Liver Tumor Specimens in the Molecular Era: Emerging Possibilities
John Hart of the University of Chicago and Daniella Allende of Cleveland Clinic will introduce six distinguished speakers. Course content will include identification of key allelic variants and molecular testing for both diagnosis and therapeutic decisions.
13:30 - 14:30 (Room 316) – Short course – Read Around Your Cases!: A Better Way To Provide Feedback
Good interpersonal communication in the pathology team environment is vital to maintaining effective workflows. And the ability to feed back objectively is key. There is always scope to sharpen our skills in this essential tool, so grab a coffee and a notebook and come and learn from two experts.
Day 6
11:30 - 13:00 (Room 343) – Professional Development: Reducing the Environmental Impact of Healthcare Delivery
