The Power List 2016

Cathy Samo

Cathy was recognized for her “keen and dedicated service,” as well as for her application of anatomic pathology techniques to her main research interest – pediatric thymic dysfunction. She earned her degree in medicine and surgery from the University of Nairobi and now continues to practise as a pathologist in Kenya. She actively advocates for both physicians’ and patients’ rights under difficult conditions, seeking fair income for doctors and better care for the population they serve. Recently, she was awarded a grant from the International Society for Infectious Diseases in order to perform a retrospective study of thymic morphological and functional characteristics among cases of fatal pediatric severe acute respiratory infections.
