The 2026 Annual Meeting is a joint event with ASCP and the Canadian Association of Pathologists – Association Canadienne des Pathologistes (CAP-ACP), and this year's general sessions are bringing science and the future of pathology and laboratory medicine to the forefront. Here's what attendees can expect.
Donald L. Siegel to keynote the Wednesday General Session
Donald L. Siegel will be the keynote speaker at the Wednesday, November 18 General Session, discussing cell therapies with a focus on CAR-T therapy.
Dr. Siegel is a professor of pathology and laboratory medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, where he is the Founding Director of the Division of Transfusion Medicine and Therapeutic Pathology, and directs the Clinical Cell and Vaccine Production Facility at the Center for Advanced Cellular Therapeutics. An expert in the field, he will discuss where CAR-T therapy stands today and what's coming next.
Twenty years ago, several of the diseases CAR-T now treats were fatal within a relatively short time of diagnosis. Today, for a growing number of patients, they're something people can live with for years. That progress was not the result of a single breakthrough, but of sustained advances in cellular engineering. Pathology played an essential role at every step, from diagnosis and monitoring to the laboratory processes that make these therapies possible. DNA-based techniques like CAR-T have been instrumental in this monumental shift in patient care.
Thursday’s General Session tackles issues shaping the profession
Thursday’s General Session, November 19, will feature four speakers covering key topics in the field. These topics include:
Digital and Computational Pathology, presented by Matthew Cecchini
Precision Diagnostics, presented by Pierre-Olivier Fiset
Workload and Burnout, presented by Britney Soll and Raymond Maung
Patient Advocacy, presented by Jason Karamchandani
A moderated discussion will follow, including the opportunity for a Q and A session. Monalisa Sur, President of CAP-ACP, will also highlight key initiatives in these areas and recognize the individuals helping to advance them.
