Image of the Month
This painting shows the excised rectum of a patient with ulcerative colitis. It was created in 1960 by medical artist Susan Robinson, a founding member of the Medical Artists’ Association of Great Britain. Susan, who was the West Middlesex Hospital’s medical artist from 1947 to 1977, was probably one of the last medical artists to routinely record pathological illustrations in watercolor for patients’ records before medical photography totally replaced this specialist form of illustration.
Illustration supplied from the Archives of the Medical Artists’ Association of Great Britain.
