Biggest challenge in pathology? Currently, organizations are generating an incredible amount of data which has the potential to enhance patient outcomes, drive quality improvements, and support public health. Most often, these troves of data remain siloed. Numerous initiatives are underway to create pathways for data to flow seamlessly between institutions, government agencies, researchers, and registries. In the near future, data interoperability will enable us to work smarter and faster by making this valuable data readily accessible.

Qualities of innovative thinkers? Transitioning from laboratory work to a role at a medical society has broadened my perspective. I have found curiosity to be essential for innovation; it's crucial to pause and focus on opportunities. Asking questions and listening carefully before offering opinions or developing solutions.

Exciting developments and trends? The widespread adoption of Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and the efforts to facilitate data interoperability have profoundly impacted the practice of medicine. EHRs have revolutionized how patient information is recorded, stored, and shared to improve communication among providers and support continuity of care. The focus on interoperability will enhance the efficient sharing of data, leading to more informed clinical decisions, quality improvements, and better patient outcomes. Over the past decade, these advancements have been pivotal, and their significance will only continue to grow.
