Anant Madabhushi

A well-known figure in digital and computational pathology, Anant is Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Emory University. He says the most unexpected moment of his career came while presenting early work on using computer-derived image features from pathology slides to predict outcome and treatment benefit in breast cancer. “One of the investors asked me whether the premise of my work was that image features from a tissue slide could predict the underlying tumor biology and disease aggressiveness. I will never forget his reaction – ‘I have a philosophical problem with that.’ I have spent the years since proving him wrong!”
