About Nam Tran

Nam is Clinical Professor, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of California, Davis. He is a well-known point-of-care testing expert and clinical trials leader; he also led his institution’s COVID-19 laboratory response – implementing testing within 19 days of the first known community-acquired case at UC Davis Medical Center. Anticipating potential supply chain challenges, Nam collaborated early on with other UC Davis departments to develop viral transport media and 3D printing of swabs. He was also invited to serve on California Governor Gavin Newsom’s COVID-19 Testing Task Force aimed at rapidly increasing statewide testing capacity.
