About Tri Nguyen
“Tri is consumed with passion when it comes to renal pathology,” said one nominator of the University of Utrecht-based nephropathologist. “He spends hours every week going through biopsies with junior residents and basic researchers. His drive to understand the molecular mechanisms of renal fibrosis has led to many high-impact papers and new research lines. As an immigrant to the Netherlands, Tri has also been an inspiration to the minorities in the lab.”
Tri himself says that, to him, renal pathology embodies the true nature of pathology. “It requires the closest communication with the clinic and direct interpretation of clinical data to get to the right diagnoses. Moreover, the use of different techniques to study tissue response to injury, including immunofluorescence, electron microscopy and mass spectrometry, makes renal pathology a broad, dynamic and challenging specialty.”
