About Octavia Peck-Palmer
As a clinical chemist, Octavia – an Associate Professor of Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh – is reaching outside the laboratory to focus on rapid testing to benefit patients in intensive care who suffer from sepsis, shock and multi-organ failure. She has embedded the laboratory into the critical care medicine workflow both as a routine and as a partner for new discoveries in diagnostics.
Octavia also has an active development program aiming to personalize testing in critical care by focusing on health disparities due to differences in patients’ cytokine/chemokine profiles. She’s equally devoted to training, with one nominator reporting, “She imbues her trainees with her dedication to using the clinical laboratory to benefit our sickest and most fragile patients.”
