Outside the Lab Profession

Look Beyond the Lab

To best address health disparities and promote high-quality patient care, we must first cultivate a laboratory workforce that mirrors the diverse patient populations it serves. How?

By going out beyond our own laboratories, meeting people where they are, and creating a level of understanding of equity and cultural awareness.

During the ASCP 2023 Annual Meeting, the Society of Black Pathology held a panel discussion focusing on the recruitment and retention of medical laboratory and pathology professionals from underrepresented areas. I encourage you to watch the video and to hear valuable insight from some of the participants as well as learn what we can do both individually and collectively to foster a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable laboratory workforce.
