A recent retrospective study published in Pathology – Research and Practice examined the clinical significance of subtyping gastric intestinal metaplasia (GIM) into complete, incomplete, or mixed categories, which are precursors to gastric cancer. The study analyzed 206 biopsy cases, confirming subtype classifications and correlating them with clinical data over an average follow-up of 52.2 months. Results showed no progression to dysplasia or adenocarcinoma, and a notable association was found between H. pylori and all GIM types, with a prevalence exceeding national estimates.
