The sustainability initiative at Bon Secours Hospital's pathology lab in Tralee, led by Chief Medical Scientist Laura Clifford and Ignetious Makozhombwe, successfully reduced chemical waste, clinical waste, and energy consumption while saving approximately €37,000 annually. By implementing a reagent manager function, the lab minimized weekly chemical waste by 64 percent and improved waste disposal through staff education. The project not only lowered costs but enhanced health and safety conditions for lab staff, serving as a model for greener practices in laboratories worldwide.
