After 20 years of leading the American Society of Clinical Pathology, I am stepping down as CEO and retiring at the end of July 2025. As I begin to transition to my next chapter, I find myself filled with a deep sense of gratitude – for the journey, for the people, and for the remarkable field of pathology and laboratory medicine that I’ve been privileged to serve. It’s a moment of reflection, of appreciation, and of immense optimism for what lies ahead for our profession.
When I first began this journey with ASCP, I could not have imagined the evolution of the laboratory we’ve witnessed. Our impact has extended globally and domestically. We’ve engaged influential change agents such as former Presidents and First Ladies. Within the Obama White House, we launched international programs that provided diagnostic care for patients without access in Africa. And we raised the voices of inspirational patient advocates who have had pivotal roles in propelling our mission forward and ensuring our continued presence at the forefront of healthcare.
However, it is fostering an unwavering emphasis and commitment to patient-centered care that I will hold closely as one of ASCP’s greatest achievements. Our mission has always been clear: to improve patient outcomes through excellence in pathology and laboratory medicine.
It has been the privilege of a lifetime to serve as the CEO of ASCP and serve the laboratory community around the globe who work tirelessly to make sure our patients receive the most accurate and timely care possible. Working alongside ASCP members and partners from every corner of the healthcare ecosystem has been nothing short of inspiring. I have been constantly humbled by the passion, intellect, and unwavering commitment of our members and collaborators. You’ve taught me that leadership is not about direction alone – it’s about listening, learning, and lifting others up.
As I look to the next chapter, I am more optimistic than ever about the future of pathology and laboratory medicine. The laboratory is becoming more central to clinical decision making than ever before, and with that comes an incredible opportunity to shape the future of patient care. I know that with the leadership, creativity, and compassion I’ve witnessed among our community, the future is in exceptionally capable hands.
As I turn the page to this next chapter, I do so with a full heart and a strong belief in the path ahead. I may be retiring from my formal role, but I will always be an advocate, a believer, and a champion for this field and the extraordinary people within it.
Thank you for the journey. It has truly been the honor of a lifetime.
