The Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) has pioneered the use of sterile site metagenomics for pathogen diagnostics, transforming clinical care in infectious disease. Established in response to diagnostic challenges, the service became the first accredited metagenomics diagnostic laboratory in the UK. Since its inception, GOSH has facilitated over 600 tests, resulting in a remarkable change in patient management for 74 percent of cases. The service not only identifies uncommon pathogens but also informs treatment options and enhances patient care through precise diagnostics and collaboration with leading research institutes.
