The essence of surgical pathology is captured in miniature in our Image of the Month

This month’s winning image was created and submitted by Karen Schoedel. She says, “This is a 1/12 scale diorama of the frozen section room at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I created this back in 2008 in collaboration with Lynlott Miniatures, Stockton Miniatures and Lucie Winsky Dolls. The two pathologists seated at the scope are Samuel Yousem and Robert Peel. Walter Bugielski is the pathologist’s assistant preparing the slides for intraoperative consultation. Sadly, Yousem has since passed away, but his commitment to excellence in diagnosis is an example for us to follow.”
