The data in this infographic were obtained from the Doody’s Review Service (DRS) database, a comprehensive bibliographic database that has published objective information and expert reviews on health sciences books since 1993 (1). The DRS database comprises relevant book data from 1993 to present. Of the 2,712 books published in the field of pathology to date, Doody’s has received 1,768 of these titles from publishers and, with the help of outstanding editorial review groups, published 1,074 expert reviews.
Most pathology books are high-quality publications, receiving an average score of 87.8 of a possible 100 points. The average list price for a pathology book is US$162.04 – but a “core title” comes at a higher price, averaging $319.45. What is a core title? Doody’s publishes an annual list of the most distinguished titles in the health sciences, called Doody’s Core Titles, which are selected and scored by content experts and seasoned librarians. The numbers speak for themselves: the top 24 pathology books currently in print score an average of 95.9 out of 100 points.
