Please judge the content alone, disregarding writing style and grammatical errors.
Please complete the score card provided, assigning a score from 1 (low) to 10 (high) for each entry to indicate the entrant’s impact
Category-specific guidance
Visibility of the profession
Question: Why should pathology be repositioned as the leader of modern medicine, and what have you done to raise the profile of the speciality?
In addition to original thoughts and ideas, look for evidence of the entrant:
looking beyond the lab (literally or figuratively),
starting new programs,
engaging with others to raise awareness or promote the work of the lab,
providing outreach with students, or
connecting with communities.
Leadership
Question: What’s the biggest challenge facing your specialty right now, and how are you addressing it via leadership?
In addition to original thoughts and ideas, look for evidence of the entrant:
improving patient care (e.g. by leveraging more effective test utilization),
driving environmental, social, and governance initiatives,
changing and improving processes in the lab,
being actively involved in education, or
future-proofing/succession planning for the lab workforce.
Mentorship
Question: What are the key lessons you have learned during your career, and how are you using those learnings to mentor others?
In addition to original thoughts and ideas, look for evidence of the entrant:
nurturing professional development in others,
nurturing personal development in others,
guiding others in addressing particular challenges,
actively sharing knowledge and wisdom with colleagues and contacts, or
serving as a trusted ally.
Innovation
Question: What gaps in technology/training/processes concern you most, and how are you addressing them via innovation?
In addition to original thoughts and ideas, look for evidence of the entrant:
implementing meaningful scientific advancements,
demonstrating creative problem-solving around any pertinent issues in the lab (e.g. workforce shortages),
advancing educational practices, or
being actively involved in advocacy or lobbying public figures about issues affecting laboratory medicine.
Patient impact
Question: What needs to change in order to maximize pathology’s impact on patient care, and how has your work advanced patient impact?
In addition to original thoughts and ideas, look for evidence of the entrant:
working directly with clinical teams,
publishing research that has impacted patient care,
developing guidelines that have impacted patient care, or
working or communicating directly with patients.
