Recently, we asked you to share instances of laboratory waste management – and we’ve heard some interesting concerns and intriguing solutions from contributors in resource-limited regions. One reader says, “In our lab, we use small glass bottles for endoscopic biopsies and pour a little formalin in each bottle. The bottles are then washed and used for several years.” Another highlights a need for greater awareness of the proper use of consumables. For instance, he says, “There is no awareness that it’s possible to reuse a biopsy container after washing properly. As a result, biopsies are discarded with their containers.” Sustainability is a particular challenge for low- and middle-income areas – do you have any suggestions that could help? Yours, Michael Schubert, Editor
