Tanja has been in the role of Laboratory Manager at London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH) for about two years. In even that short time, she has already successfully led and driven the laboratory through UKAS ISO 15189 accreditation, spearheading a quality improvement throughout the service. Her work to integrate bacteriology and virology has led to major improvements in the molecular microbiology service, all of which is now processed through the virology automated molecular workflow. “This has vastly improved turnaround times and reproducibility of results,” says a colleague. “Our positive 16S results are reported within three days. We are continually improving and adding to our molecular virology and microbiology testing repertoire and have an expert scientific and medical team which Tanja champions.” When not working on system improvements, Tanja acts as a mentor to young scientists.
