About Semir Vranic
His nominators describe him as a “mover and shaker” in the field of pathology in the western Balkans. It’s a well-earned accolade, as Semir has resisted the temptation to move internationally, choosing instead to remain in Bosnia, where his skills in pathology, teaching and diplomacy can have the greatest impact. Thus far, he has organized congresses, teaching courses and, according to nominators, even helped to heal the rift between Bosnia, Croatia and Serbia – three countries that were only recently at war with one another.
In the next 10 years, Semir – currently Assistant Professor at the University of Sarajevo – has clear goals: to expand his knowledge and skills in molecular diagnostic pathology, to establish a research lab and center of excellence for cancer genomics and translational cancer research, to extend his collaborations with partners from all over the world, and to increase the standard of and accomplishments in academic medicine in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
