About Nahed Ismail
A Professor of Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh, Nahed also serves as Medical Director of the Magee-Womens Hospital’s Clinical Microbiology Lab. Her career path has taken her from Egypt, where she received her medical degree, to Canada, and finally to the United States.
“Nahed is aggressively integrating microbiology, molecular microbiology and immunology as a diagnostic continuum,” says a nominator. “She is pursuing this clinically, focusing on the area of mother-child infections and carrier states. In her research, she is at the forefront of tick-borne illnesses, and how an exaggerated immune response is the cause of the morbidity and mortality related to many of these agents. What amplifies her impact is a commitment to training of residents and fellows, and infecting them with her enthusiasm and dedication.”
